When I was a kid, I learned magic from the best magic shop in the world. It had the best tricks, and the best service. No, I mean it, you’ve never seen service like this. It’s like they’d read your mind. There was a guy there named Verne, an incredible magician. This guy always knew what I wanted to buy before I even walked in. He used to say to me “If I can’t guess the trick you want today, it’s free.” and I swear to you, I never got a free trick the whole time I shopped there.
All the tricks would be under the glass counter, and I’d spend hours just looking at them. After I while I’d have it narrowed down to just a few. They had these nice labels next to them, showing the price.
I’d pick the one I wanted, and sure enough, Verne already knew.
There was one trick he never taught me though, and that’s how he knew which trick I was going to choose. But I picked up little clues every now and then, and over the years I think I pieced enough of it together to show you what it felt like.
