Automate by Lewis Le Val

Le Val Classics - Automate — Mindhaus

The controlled outcome of automatic writing

In Volume 1 of Le Val Classics, Lewis teaches two methods to achieve full control over a participant’s “automatic writing”.

The performer instructs the participant to hold a pen in their non-dominant hand and a small stack of business cards in the other. With the items held behind their back or under the table, the participant begins to move the pen across the top card in a random manner. When it’s time to interpret their abstract scribblings, what’s found is a design of the performer’s own choosing, revealing any information he wishes.

All you need is a standard pen and a small stack of business cards.

What you are learning here is a force. The resulting design on the card will be something secretly predetermined by the performer, creating a beautiful reveal that feels as though it emerged from the participant’s subconscious movement.

Did we mention that the participant signs the back of the card too? Depending on the method you choose, they sign the back of the card either before or after their automatic writing, ensuring the participant is completely convinced that everything is as it appears.
